B/S/H/ rolled out the Kosher carpet for Rochelle Kalisch, CKD, and owner of Regency Designs here in New York on February 15 at the B/S/H/ Experience and Design Center for her program Kosher Kitchens Part II: the Passover Kitchen. Addressing a packed room, Rochelle provided a refresher (from her course 2 years ago) on Kosher dietary laws and how to design and prepare a Kosher Kitchen for daily use. Building on the theme, she delineated the differences between "daily use" and "Passover use," a sub-set of Kosher guidelines reserved for only one week per year!

Of course the devil is in the details and prepping or "Kashering" your kitchen for Passover turns out to be a complicated and time-consuming enterprise. When in doubt seek out a Rabbi's advice. Case in point: marbles, certain granites, certain sealants and glass-for work surfaces-are considered too porous and cannot be Kashered for Passover! Alternative options and suggestions were provided, followed by a lively Q&A that helped everyone frame the context of these ancient rituals.

Douglas Stonecipher, B/S/H/ Experience and Design Center Manager, arranged for both Kosher and non-Kosher edibles to sate the crowd during the cocktail hour, warmly welcoming attendees and reminding them that his firm's appliances provide both Shabbat and Yom Tov (holiday) settings.
